Diflucan is used to treat fungal infections of the vagina and vulva (the area around the vagina where the yeast infection is located). Fluconazole is also used to prevent cryptococcosis (a type of bacteria that can be present in the vaginal and oral fluids) in immunocompetent adults.

Do not take Diflucan if you are allergic to fluconazole or any of the ingredients in the tablet, tablet or solution. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication if you have a history of allergy. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Diflucan.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. It may be taken with food as well.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Children's dosage is also based on weight. To reduce the risk of vomiting, carefully follow your doctor's prescription.

If you are taking the liquid formulation of this medication, shake the bottle well before each dose. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.
